Only in exceptional years do we make our Family Reserve. 2012 was an exceptional year in the vineyard with winter rains, a gentle spring, lovely summer sun and a dry autumn. The grapes were tended carefully and handpicked at premium ripeness. This is the first Dunbabin Family Reserve – with 40% whole bunch in the pressings and longer, selected barrel time. Made from parcels of premium fruit from the oldest vines on the property.
The resulting wine is more complex, richer, and structured with the ability to age for a decade or more. Smooth and savoury with rich plum and dark cherry fruit, soft spice and earthiness, a firm personality and soft seamless silkiness in the mouth with a density of flavours. Very seductive and sophisticated, best with food.
